The former Liverpool star thinks it's disrespectful what African player did to his coach Jurgen Klopp after the Man Utd tie
The former Liverpool star Michael Owen blasts on Liverpool striker Sadio Mane for disrespecting his teammates after refusing Jurgen Klopp's handshake at the final whistle at Old Trafford last night.
The Senegalese was left out of Liverpool's starting XI, and was unimpressed with his coach's decision, with Klopp later claiming it had been a late change before kick-off to include Jota. Mane did eventually get on the field with just over quarter of an hour remaining, but his appearance was well overshadowed by the performances of his fellow forwards.
Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah were all on the scoresheet in the win, and Owen feels Mane's reaction sends a bad message to fans.
"I thought Klopp played it well in the interview, played it down, didn’t want to take the shine off what was a great performance and a great win," Owen told Premier League Productions.
"Yes, go knock on his door tomorrow [after the game], yes, if you’re not happy then say something, but you don’t do that. That’s a lack of respect. It sends a bad image to the fans, to his teammates.
"Don’t forget, he didn’t play, three players did, those three players Salah, Jota and Firmino - scored all four goals between them, so he’s [Klopp] hardly wrong in what he did."
Owen thinks Mane should have done it differently.
"You just can’t do that. That’s a lack of respect, especially with Klopp who shows respect to everybody. I thought it was poor play.
"I totally understand it, I’ve been left out of a cup final before, but you can’t do that. If you feel that strongly, go back to the training ground, text the manager or knock on his door, anything, so many different ways of reacting bar that one in front of the cameras.
"There’s so many ways you can deal with it, that’s the last way you deal with it," concluded Owen.
