Pamzo: Posta Rangers under no pressure despite strong start

Posta Rangers’ resilience and form will be put to the test on Sunday when they face record league champions Gor Mahia FC.

Posta Rangers head coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo insists his side is under no pressure despite their impressive start to the new FKF Premier League season, which sees them sitting top of the table after four rounds.

The Mailmen narrowly escaped relegation last season after finishing 16th on the log and had to overcome Naivas FC in the FKF Premier League–NSL playoff to retain their top-flight status.

This time around, however, they have made a remarkable turnaround. After four matches, Posta Rangers have collected ten points from three wins and a draw, including victories against top sides Shabana FC, Tusker FC, and Mathare United, and a draw against AFC Leopards.

Beyond the results, the team has earned praise for its refreshing style of play. Previously known for their direct, long-ball approach, the Rangers have embraced a more fluid, possession-based system.

Asked whether the positive start has brought added pressure, Pamzo brushed off the notion, saying his players are simply enjoying their football without setting lofty targets.

“We don’t have any pressure within the team because, honestly, no one expects us to win the league. We’re not Gor Mahia, Shabana, or AFC Leopards. I just tell my players to relax, play their football, and enjoy themselves, that’s what the game is all about,” he told Mozzart Sport.

Pamzo attributed their early success to a shift in recruitment strategy, which saw the club move away from relying on experienced veterans to bringing in young, energetic talents — a change made in consultation with the club’s management.

“We’ve changed our approach. In the past, we were known for signing experienced players, but I felt it was time to inject some fresh energy. I told the management the old strategy wasn’t working and we needed a new direction. Everyone agreed, and so far, it’s proving to be the right move.”

He added that the new signings, coupled with the tactical switch to a possession-based style, have been key to their early success. Among those catching the eye is Trevor Omondi, signed from Shauri Moyo, who has already netted twice from midfield.

“The new players have really impressed. Take Teddy Omondi, for instance — he’s scored two goals and shown great work rate. Our style has evolved too. Previously, with Felix leading the line, we played more directly. Now, since we don’t have big strikers, we focus on keeping the ball and controlling play.”

As for season ambitions, Pamzo says the team hasn’t set any specific targets and prefers to take things one match at a time.

“We haven’t set a specific goal for the season. The plan is to approach every game professionally and see where we end up when the season concludes.”
