After the warning Real Madrid received against PSG, the Royal Club has sprung into action to sign new players, all according to Xabi Alonso’s wishes

Following a humiliating 4-0 semi-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup, Real Madrid are reportedly reassessing several aspects of their squad. The loss has triggered urgent internal discussions, with changes now looming.

According to Spanish outlet Cadena SER, the club’s leadership agrees that Xabi Alonso’s current squad still needs significant refinement. As a result, Los Blancos are planning to bring in three more high-profile players as quickly as possible.

So far, Real Madrid have made several key signings this summer:

  • Dean Huijsen (20) – Centre-back from AFC Bournemouth for €62.5 million
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold (26) – Right-back from Liverpool for €10 million
  • Franco Mastantuono (17) – Winger from River Plate for €45 million

However, despite acquiring Huijsen, the club remains concerned about its central defense. Reports suggest that Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate has emerged as a major target. Sky Sport even claims Real have already struck an agreement for Konate to join on a free transfer in the 2026/27 season, once his Liverpool contract expires.

Another area of focus is left-back, with Alvaro Carreras of Benfica reportedly on the verge of a move. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Madrid and Benfica have already reached terms, with Madrid expected to pay Carreras’ 50 million release clause in installments. The only obstacle is a buyback option held by Manchester United, where Carreras spent his youth years. However, United are unlikely to activate it.

Most urgently, though, Real Madrid need to replace midfield legend Luka Modric, who is set to leave the club after the tournament. His exit leaves a major void in midfield, and the club is still weighing up potential replacements.

With several areas still in flux and key negotiations ongoing, the coming weeks could be decisive for Xabi Alonso’s new era at the Bernabeu.
