Reading Time: 1min | Sun. 26.04.26. | 18:19

The win took K'Ogalo six points clear of Ingwe in the title race

Gor Mahia midfielder Alpha Onyango was on top of his game as he led his side to a big 1-0 win over arch-rivals AFC Leopards at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, 26 April.

Onyango, after a commanding and flawless display in midfield, scored a late winner for K'Ogalo, as they revenged their first-leg loss to Ingwe, placing themselves as favorites to win a record-extending league crown at the end of the season.

In this piece, we look at how individual players fared in the 99th edition of the Mashemeji derby:

Bryne OmondiGoalkeeper
Could've been on a holiday. Bryne enjoyed a comfortable afternoon, having little danger to avert.
Rating
7
Bryton OnyonaDefense
Super, as usual, from the youngster. Apart from being solid in defense, he came up with the assist for the winning goal after wrestling a man.
Rating
8
Frank OdhiamboDefense
Has not put a foot wrong since rejoining the record champions. Excellence per usual.
Rating
7
Mike KibwageDefense
Super solid in the right side of defense. Bullied men across the park, while clearing any danger infront of him.
Rating
7
Paul OchuogaDefense
Left no stone unturned on his wing. Whether tracking back or advancing forward to create avenues for goal, Ochuoga went on his business with effort and class.
Rating
7
Enock MorrisonMidfield
Wears his heart on his sleeve on such days, and he was no different here. All action, but lucky to have remained on the field, given his rash tackles.
Rating
6
Alpha OnyangoMidfield
How befitting for him to silence unjustified doubts about him this season. Shepherded his side with poise in midfield - including a peach of a pass to find Adukwaw in the first half - and took matters in his own (leg) to smack a late winner. True champion.
Rating
9
Ebenezer AdukwawAttack
Was worth his money in the first half, when he shot early at Katasi, before setting up Essombe through on goal, but felt stodgy in the second-half, when he was hooked off slightly after the hour-mark.
Rating
6
Jackson DwangAttack
His celiling remains high, but could be pardoned for looking frazzled in what was his Mashemeji Derby debut.
Rating
5
Sharriff MusaAttack
Falls in a similar category with Dwang. Flattered to deceive, as he found no route to goal.
Rating
6
Patrick EssombeAttack
On a day when chances came at a premium, Essombe was guilty of spurning two clear cut chances in the first half. Was unfortunate to go out with injury in the second period.
Rating
4
Ebenezer AssifuahAttack
The second-half substitute lacked his usual spark off the bench.
Rating
3
Ben StanleyAttack
Came in with quarter an hour left, not much time to effect the nature of this game.
Rating
2
Lawrence JumaMidfield
Was also thrown in late, coming in as an enforced change.
Rating
2
Samuel KapenAttack
Came in late. No fair rating.
Rating
-
Humphrey KatasiGoalkeeper
Produced a big stop in the first half to deny Ebenzer Adukwaw, and was always alert to keep his side in the game. His undoing ended up conceding the decisive goal, as he got beat by a low strike.
Rating
7
Brian OjokDefense
Just like he did in the first half, Ojok was solid here, resisting his marker - mostly Adukwaw - and made some darting runs upront.
Rating
6
Emmanuel LwanguDefense
Warrior. Having overcome a nagging injury, Lwangu showed his importance in the side, remaining composed, and threw himself at anything that came his way.
Rating
6
Kaycie OdhiamboDefense
Skippered the side in the biggest game of all, and apart from a shaky start, which saw him let Essombe past him in the 20th minute, led his team with maturity, while showing full commitment.
Rating
5
Samuel SemoDefense
Expertly held his ground defensively at left back, but would have wished to be more productive offensively, when he joined the attack.
Rating
5
Musa OundoMidfield
Was combative in midfield, offering little space to Gor Mahia midfielders, albeit giving up a couple of fouls.
Rating
5
Bonface MunyendoMidfield
Operating in a fluid midfield, Munyendo looked a tad off the pace, and was among two men who were hooked during halftime.
Rating
4
Ronald SichenjeAttack
He chose the wrong day to be off-color. With little opportunities in the first half, Sichenje was dull in possession, and was also taken off at the break.
Rating
3
Tyson OtienoMidfield
Given his high bar this season, Tyson was on this day forced to look pretty average. Gor Mahia did their homework, and offered the playmaker no space or time to effect the game.
Rating
5
James KinyanjuiAttack
Was also stymied here, though could have put the opposition defense on their toes with his pace and trickery, which was evidently lacking.
Rating
5
Samuel SsenyonjoAttack
Could be forgiven for being a passenger as his team endured spells without the ball in the first half, but offered little in the second half, when Ingwe were on the ascendancy.
Rating
4
Kelly MadadaAttack
Was among the new entrants in the second half, but like his mates, was marked out of the game, producing very liitle.
Rating
3
Hassan BejaAttack
Was easier to notice the absence of the second half substitute, his impact completely unfelt.
Rating
2
Victor OmuneAttack
Came in with little under 20 minutes left, with his side looking bland. Fell into a similar trap too.
Rating
2
Victor OtienoAttack
Came on late, no fair rating.
