The FC Talanta forward, handed his full debut, made an immediate impact—opening the scoring before turning provider for David Sakwa’s goal, which ultimately proved to be the winner.

This result marked a significant improvement from the first leg, where McCarthy’s side had been held, and showcased the tactical adjustments made by the South African gaffer.

He made sweeping changes to the starting XI, introducing Faruk Shikalo in goal and a new defensive line featuring Siraj Mohammed, Sylvester Owino, Swaleh Pamba, and Lewis Bandi.

The reshuffle brought early balance and energy to the side, helping the team maintain structure and apply pressure in key moments.

Mozzart Sport monitored the match closely.

Here are our player ratings from the clash:

Farouk ShikaloGoalkeeper
Displayed decent control with short passes and maintained a fair distance with the backline. However, he was partially at fault for the goal due to poor communication with his defenders.
Rating
4
Siraj Mohammed Defense
Held his ground defensively against Chad's Ali Mahamat, and offered a decent outlet during the build-up. However, lacked end product in the final third and struggled to inject the explosiveness needed to impact the game going forward.
Rating
5
Swaleh PambaDefense
Decent in duels and showed promise in central areas, though he struggled when defending wide zones. Looked somewhat unsettled during build-up play but formed a solid partnership with Sylvester Owino. Still raw, but definitely one for the future.
Rating
5
Sylvester OwinoDefense
Strong in duels and composed on the ball, but struggled defensively against direct attackers (Ali andThiam) Too passive late in the game, allowing opponents space to shoot from the edge of the box — similar issues to Pamba. Needs to be more assertive in key moments.
Rating
4
Lewis BandiMidfield
Made his debut with a composed showing in possession and played a crucial role in the goal by releasing a runner behind the defence. However, he struggled in the latter stages, particularly in 1v1 situations and tracking his marker in narrow spaces. Still showed promise with his forward runs, crosses, and overall progression.
Rating
4
Alpha Onyango Midfield
Screened the backline effectively and offered a reliable outlet in build-up play. Made good late runs into the final third but lacked composure, often rushing his shots at key moments.
Rating
6
David SakwaAttack
Scored a goal which lifted his rating, started out wide before being pushed centrally. Struggled on the wing, frequently losing possession and making poor decisions on the ball.
Rating
5
Benstanley OmondiMidfield
Registered an assist but looked disjointed and uncertain in his role early on. The technical bench needs to clarify how best to utilise him to help him settle. Offered little defensive support for his fullback but found good pockets of space to aid progression.
Rating
4
Austin OdhiamboAttack
Had minimal impact on the game but positioned himself well in pockets and offered a solid option in midfield rotations to aid progression. Passive without the ball and his set-piece delivery lacked precision.
Rating
4
William LenkupaeMidfield
Wasteful with chances in the final third. Operated in midfield and showed good willingness to make runs in behind. Defensively, worked well alongside Alpha to help shield the backline.
Rating
3
EMMANUEL OSOROAttack
Goal and assist on debut. Started centrally but frequently drifted wide. By far the standout player on the pitch. Confident in 1v1 situations, showed strong progressive carries, made intelligent decisions in the final third, delivered quality crosses, and consistently made dangerous runs in behind
Rating
8
Beja NyamawiAttack
Decent half with a positive impact on play. Provided a strong presence in the box but should have taken his chance better. Showed intent but lacked the clinical edge.
Rating
4
Musa BrianMidfield
Struggled throughout. Frequently dragged out of position, leaving the backline exposed. Lost key duels in midfield and failed to provide cover in wide areas, contributing to the team conceding dangerous chances and shots.
Rating
2
Daniel SakariDefense
Played out of position in midfield but applied himself well in the destroyer role. Provided solid cover for the right-back, though overall influence on the game remained limited.
Rating
3
Adam WilsonAttack
Showed good 1v1 ability and looked lively in attacking moments, but was wasteful in front of goal. A promising player who needs to sharpen his end product.
Rating
4
Aboud OmarDefense
Nothing impactful from the defender
Rating
