Benni McCarthy's men were second-best in all departments as the Ivorians quality and experience showed
Kenya men's national football team Harambee Stars endured a chastening night on Tuesday, 14 October, as they wrapped up their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of hosts Ivory Coast at the Alassane Ouattara Ebimpé Olympic Stadium.

Up against way superior and quality opponents, the visitors looked out of the race from the get-go, and their ratings did not rank high up there.
In this piece, we look at how individual players fared in the damning affair.

Bryne OdhiamboGoalkeeper
Unfortunately for him, he conceded all three high-quality chances Ivory Coast created. He could not do anything for either the Kessie or Doimande goal, but his positioning for Diallo's late free kick left a lot to be desired.

Daniel SakariDefense
He replaced the suspended Rooney Onyango and really struggled to get going. Pinned in his own half, the Kenya Police FC defender was like a man on ice against the pacy Diomande, who spun him around several times, with one of those occasions leading up to the second goal.

Manzur OkwaroDefense
Slotting in at left-back, he had the tough job of containing Manchester United winger Amad Diallo, and was left scrambling in the first six minutes as he lost his man, who teed up Kessie for the opener. He, however, held his own throughout the game to soften the blow.
Rating
4

Collins SichenjeMidfield
Looked a tad out of place in the first half as he tried to cover spaces in almost all parts of defense, but his blocks kept Kenya alive. His night ended on a sour note as he picked a foul just outside the box that Diallo took full advantage of.
Rating
4

Alphonce OmijaDefense
Playing as the third man in defense, he failed to track his man as Kessie dashed past him to stick in the opener, and ended up being hooked off at halftime as McCarthy looked to open up the game.
Rating
3

Sylvester OwinoDefense
Bailed Kenya out from going a goal down early when he expertly cleared off the line, and did not look so caught out in the moment. However, his cross-field passes were stray, and he took a yellow card for a foul on Nicolas Pepe.
Rating
3

Alpha Onyango Midfield
Might have been the most confident outfield player on the pitch - dropping back to build-up play - but was vulnerable with the ball, and struggled to make the right passes going forward. He was also taken off at halftime.
Rating
3

Timothy OumaMidfield
Pretty much underwhelming after his positive show against Burundi. Looked lightweight in midfield and was also a culprit in misplacing forward passes.
Rating
3

William LenkupaeMidfield
His persistent running and effort counted for little on this day, and like Ouma, he was not a match for the physical Ivorians who easily picked him off when he had possession.
Rating
3

Ryan OgamAttack
The on-form man for Harambee Stars saw little service and was forced to play the undesired role of leading the press. He did not look overly impressed out there.
Rating
3

Michael OlungaAttack
Took until 36 minutes for him to finally get hold of a pass from a teammate. It was a long night for the skipper, who also fed on scraps.
Rating
3

Adam WilsonAttack
Came off the bench at halftime and felt the wrath of The Elephants' physicality. He created little on the right, and failed to track down his man, leading to Diomande's goal.
Rating
2

Job OchiengAttack
He tried to get things going on the left and even forced Kenya's first corner, but this was not his day to effect anything.
Rating
2

Duke AbuyaMidfield
He was thrown in to replace the tiring legs of Olunga, and even he could not get right to the pace of the game.
Rating
2

Austin OdhiamboAttack
Came on late when the rain severely affected the game. No fair rating.

Marvin NabwireMidfield
Was thrown in late, no fair rating.
