It was sweet revenge for Gor who had lost the previous meeting 2-1 to their bitter rivals

Gor Mahia wiped the floor with the AFC Leopards skin to scoop the Mashemeji Derby bragging rights.

A brace in the biggest football club fixture in the land is proof that Benson Omala enjoyed his afternoon on the pitch.

He was heavily criticized for missing a penalty when the two giants last met, but he will be glad to have answered them in the perfect way.

GOR MAHIA

Kevin OmondiGoalkeeper
Looked shaky especially when collecting aerial balls. Wasn’t tested much in the first half and overall, had little to do in the game. Will be happy to have kept a cleansheet in first appearance at the big stage.

Made good runs on the right wing and further, had working chemistry with Rodgers Mugisha. Kept Victor Otieno quiet throughout.

Was solid on the left flank despite being tasked with marking Clifton Miheso, a winger who is always a thorn in the flesh of full backs

He was calm and won battles with ease despite being his first derby. Dealt with aerial balls decisively.

The Rwandese never gave Leopards’ forwards room to breath. He anchored the backline with maturity and his freekicks were dangerous as well.

The former Nzoia Sugar star dictated play the way he wanted. He knew when to make forward passes and when to whip them quickly. Did the donkey work in midfield, allowing Lawrence Juma the room to carry the ball forward. Rested for Ernest Wendo in the second half.

His experience in this fixture came in play as the midfielder carried the ball forward seamlessly. He also chipped in did the defensive work whenever Gor needed numbers in their area.

He was quiet in the first half especially on the ball. However, his runs were effective as he made it difficult for the Leopards full back Vincent Mahiga.

He wanted it more than anyone in the midfield. He made the right passes and did well in picking Omala for the opener. Was cautioned for time wasting late in the second half.

Put man of the match performance as his brace won Gor the match. The forward made the Leopards defence busy throughout. He will watch the goal he scored and be pleased with how he looped the ball past Levis Opiyo. He was at the right place at the right time for the second goal.

His presence could only be felt when taking corner kicks in the first half but managed to brag an assist in the second half.

AFC LEOPARDS

Levis OpiyoGoalkeeper
He would have done better and stopped Gor from taking the lead. He left his territory early, giving Omala the space and time to loop the ball over him.

Randy BakariDefense
There was no coordination between him and Miheso on the right wing. He was decent defensively nut offered little going forward.

Vincent MahigaDefense
He didn’t deserve to be on the losing side as he put in a shift in his first Mashemeji Derby.

The youngster was largely decent but was bullied by Sibomana to create the second goal. Made a last-ditch block to deny Gor from scoring the third goal.

He was calm and drove the ball forward especially in the first half. He lost his man Omala twice and was cautioned for a cynical challenge in the first half.

Another player who didn’t deserve to taste defeat in the derby as he did his job brilliantly. Made timely interceptions and was good in getting the ball forward.

It wasn’t the best afternoon for the midfielder as he struggled to progress the ball. A couple of misplaced passes in the midfield and came second in most of the battles.

The youngster was the best Leopard on the pitch. Unfortunately, his dribbling skills and pace couldn’t translate to goals.

Disappointing afternoon for the skipper of the day as his presence on the pitch was not felt. Was rested early in the second half.

The forward worked hard to keep the defence busy but wasn’t getting the support and space to execute the final ball. Had the gas to run throughout but the supply from midfield let him down.

A game the winger will want to forget easily. No take ons, crosses or shots came from his lethal left foot. His delivery of set pieces was wanting as well.
