While Posta Rangers will be under pressure to secure all three points, Sofapaka could still prove dangerous as they look to restore pride despite their confirmed relegation

Posta Rangers will face the already relegated Sofapaka FC in a crucial FKF Premier League clash at the Kasarani Annex on Monday afternoon.

The Mailmen are desperate for maximum points from the 3 pm kick-off clash to boost their survival hopes.

Posta currently sit just a point above the relegation zone and know that anything less than victory could leave them in danger, especially with difficult fixtures against Nairobi United, KCB FC and fellow relegation rivals Ulinzi Stars still to come.

The Mailmen head into the match on the back of a poor run of form, having failed to win any of their last five league matches.

They have lost three and drawn two.

New coach Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno will therefore be hoping his side can finally turn things around against a Sofapaka side whose relegation to the National Super League was confirmed last week.

Batoto ba Mungu sit at the bottom of the standings with only three wins from 30 matches this season.

Despite Sofapaka’s struggles, history suggests Posta will not have it easy.

The 2009 league champions have dominated recent meetings between the two sides, winning five of the last six encounters.

They also claimed a convincing 2-0 victory in the first leg earlier this season, making them something of a bogey side for the Mailmen.

Sofapaka coach Edward Manoah attributed the club’s relegation to the loss of key players and financial difficulties that made it impossible to strengthen the squad during the midseason transfer window.

“The midseason transfer window was an issue because the club lost several important players during that period. Due to financial incapability, they were unable to attract quality replacements who could help the team survive relegation. When we came in, after assessing the situation, we started preparing the group for the eventuality we had foreseen, especially the possibility of relegation,” said Manoah.

The tactician, however, remains optimistic that Sofapaka can bounce back to the top flight at the first attempt.

“The club has a good crop of young players and, if they are kept intact, they can form a solid foundation for an immediate return to the Premier League. Hopefully, the management will keep the club together and not disband it,” he added.

While Posta Rangers will be under pressure to secure all three points, Sofapaka could still prove dangerous as they look to restore pride despite their confirmed relegation.
