Premier League vs Man City: The Cityzens face relegation in court!

Reading Time: 2min | Tue. 13.08.24. | 10:11

In September, the Cityzens are to respond to charges of breaking Premier League financial rules, while the final verdict is expected to be delivered early in 2025

Financial Fair Play regulations and rules usually didn't cause much discomfort to those who were used to spending the most. Although not the biggest spenders, Everton and Nottingham Forest had to swallow the bitter pill last season and face the point deduction. However, the situation has obviously changed, given that Man City will have to deal with the law and respond to charges that they broke the regulations mentioned above.

According to The Times, the hearing is scheduled to begin in September, and the Cityzens are to respond to 115 counts of the indictment. The same source claims that the trial was initially supposed to start two months later, but the independent commission assessed that it was possible to commence the court case already in September and thus decided to bring it forward.

The court estimates that the entire process will last approximately ten weeks. Hence, the final verdict is likely to be reached at the beginning of 2025. The 115 charges relate to the reported breaches of the Premier League's financial rules and the lack of cooperation during the investigation.

Regarding the seriousness and the number of accusations, a turbulent period is ahead of Man City. Subsequently, the severity of the punishment for the club from the Etihad Stadium - if found guilty - is still unknown. However, some possible options include a point deduction or, in the worst case for the Cityzens, relegation from the Premier League.
