K’Ogalo were on Sunday, 31 May crowned league champions for a record-extending 22nd time, despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Nairobi United at the Nyayo National Stadium.

In their first year under Ghanaian head coach Charles Akonnor, Gor Mahia went on a dominant run in the league, winning a league-high 20 games, and losing the joint-fewest matches in the division -five.

“Congratulations Gor Mahia Football Club on winning the 2025/2026 Premier League title and securing a historic 22nd league championship,” President Ruto, a renowned football fan, wrote on his social media handles on Sunday. “This remarkable achievement is a testament to the hard work, discipline, and resilience that have defined your campaign throughout the season.

I commend the players, technical bench, management, and the club's loyal supporters, whose unwavering commitment have once again propelled K’Ogalo to the summit of Kenyan football.”

On their day in the sun, Gor Mahia attracted a capacity crowd in the stadium, with the trophy celebrations involving former players and Kenyan football dignitaries from all backgrounds.

“For generations, Gor Mahia has occupied a special place in the hearts of football fans across our country,” Ruto said. “The club's rich legacy continues to inspire young Kenyans to pursue their dreams, embrace teamwork, and strive for excellence. This victory is not only a proud moment for the club and its supporters, but also a celebration of the continued growth and promise of Kenyan football.”

On Friday, 22 May, Ruto, through Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, donated a Ksh1 million cash prize to the club, as they edged closer to their Premier League triumph.

Focusing on their future assignments, the Head of State wished the club success in next season’s CAF Champions League, which they qualified for - albeit for the playoffs - after clinching the title after a trophyless 2025.

“As you prepare to represent our nation in the CAF Champions League, carry with you the pride and goodwill of all Kenyans,” Ruto noted. “We are confident that you will continue to fly our flag high and showcase the talent, determination, and fighting spirit that define our country. Hongera (congratulations) K’Ogalo on this historic achievement. May this success inspire even greater triumphs in the years ahead and bring further glory to Kenyan football.”
