Romelu Lukaku is an avid hip-hop listener; his understanding of one of his favourite artists even changed his view of life

It is not a rarity to find philosophy in music, in lyrics, in songs. It is even a normal occurrence to see athletes find motivation in music before matches or during training,

But what Jay-Z's discography and support mean to Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku is more than just pumping up adrenaline before coming out to the pitch.

Lukaku said that rap artist Jay-Z taught him how to stay on top and how to become a winner.

The 28-year-old Belgium international spoke of his friendship with Shawn Carter AKA Jay-Z and how the American musician helped him boost his patience and work hard in order to reach his goals.

“With all my experience, music is a way to keep myself connected with the difficulties I have gone through in my life,” Lukaku told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It’s very important - this is not just a hobby, but a part of me."

"My friendship with Jay-Z? He taught me how to stay on top, how to become a winner. I remember when he said to me: ‘If you really think Inter are the step to take to win, do it’.

"During my first year, my teammates and I came close to success, but in the last season we made it through hard work, patience, sweat and sacrifice. Just the way Jay had shown me.”

Since moving to Inter in the summer of 2019 from Manchester United, the Belgian attacker scored 64 goals in 95 competitive games with the Nerazzurri.

With Lukaku's help, Inter reached the Europa League final in his first campaign with the Beneamata and lead the team to their first Scudetto in 11 years, scoring 24 goals in 36 Serie A games during the recently closed campaign.
