The versatile Argentine playmaker has blossomed at Cesc Fabregas' Como 1907

Real Madrid are gearing up for a pivotal transfer window, and while defensive reinforcements remain on the agenda, their first move is already taking shape.

That move leads straight back to Nico Paz. The 21-year-old versatile midfielder who came through their ranks before moving to Italy in 2024 in search of more playing minutes.

The Argentine playmaker has blossomed at Como 1907, emerging as one of the standout young talents in Serie A. And after passing up the chance to bring him back last year, Madrid have now made their decision: 2026 is the moment to act.

According to reports in Spain, the club are set to trigger Paz's €9 million buy-back clause before the May 30 deadline. The process hasn't been finalised just yet, but all indications are that it's only a matter of time.

At Como, there's already an acceptance that Paz's return to the Santiago Bernabeu is inevitable. The Italian side have begun planning for life without him and are even looking toward Madrid once again for a replacement, with interest in promising youngster Daniel Yanez. The strong relationship between the two clubs could smooth the path for another deal.

Interestingly, Paz's future in Madrid has technically been mapped out for some time. As part of his original move to Como in 2024, he had already agreed terms with Los Blancos for a potential return. Those conditions, however, may now require updating - and fresh talks with his representatives are expected.

There is little doubt around the excitement building in Madrid. Paz hasn't just developed in Italy - he's matured into a player capable of stepping into a bigger role. The real question now isn't if he returns, but how he will be used.

With uncertainty still surrounding the managerial situation, and whether it's Alvaro Arbeloa or another name in the dugout, Paz's role remains open.

But one thing is clear: Real Madrid aren't just bringing him back for the future. They believe he's ready now.
