Manchester United's transfer window reaches a rough patch

Erik Ten Hag's job was already hard, but it looks like his best-known player won't make it any easier. And his former club Ajax? They are also out to make Ten Hag's life a nightmare.

In short, Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave, but no other club seems willing to take him and pay his insanely high salary. In the meantime, United are trying to recruit Antony from Ajax, but the Amsterdam club is asking $100 million for the winger.

Ronaldo's desire to leave Manchester United is fuelled by his fear of Lionel Messi breaking some of his Champions League records. The Portugal international has he'd like to go and join a club competing in Europe's top competition, but the club do not want to sell the forward.

According to The Athletic, Ronaldo aims to play for a club competing in the Champions League next season to cement his scoring record in that competition. He is currently the competition's all-time top scorer with 140 goals, though Messi is just 15 goals behind.

Ajax star Antony is a high-priority transfer target for United, with the Amsterdammers demanding around $100 million for the Brazilian starlet, which is at least $20 more than what the English club is offering. The winger is one of the most exciting young talents on the planet right now, the kind of player Manchester United fans would love to get.

He bagged 12 goals and ten assists in 33 games for Ajax last season. Those are impressive numbers for someone so young. In many ways, he's like the new Cristiano Ronaldo. But nobody knows what will happen with the old one.
