Red Devils legend: "Watching him I get frustated"

Harsh words from the legendary Manchester United defender

The Manchester United camp is more than disappointed with the performances of their 72 million euros star after a series of poor displays for the club. According to Manchester Evening News, one member of Amorim's staff was particularly dissatisfied with what the player showed in last week's defeat to Tottenham.

There has also been a lot of talk about the match against Everton, where the Old Trafford club was trailing by two goals but managed to secure a point after substituting this player. Since Ruben Amorim took charge of the Red Devils in November, he has played only five full matches and has been substituted 10 times by the Portuguese coach.

Additionally, he has scored only seven goals in all competitions this season, with just two coming in the Premier League. Without a goal in his last 16 matches, Rasmus Hojlund stands out as a symbol of Manchester United’s current struggles. On Saturday, the Danish forward was replaced by 17-year-old Chido Obi, who made only his second appearance for the club, which speaks volumes about Hojlund’s current form.

In the mentioned match against Everton at Goodison Park, even United fans applauded when Danish player was substituted in the 70th minute.

One of the club’s former players and legends commented on the striker’s current situation and the potential reasons behind his poor performances in recent weeks.

Rio Ferdinand advised the young Dane to change his approach if he wants to improve at the club. Hojlund arrived at the Theatre of Dreams from Atalanta in July 2023 in a 72 million transfer, despite Manchester United initially insisting they would not pay more than 60 million.

"Confidence has obviously left the building in terms of the striker department. They haven’t got great option in terms of numbers either. One of the things with Hojlund, watching him I get frustrated because he’s always trying to fight the defender and have contact. Sometimes release yourself from contact so when you have someone against you it’s easier to take the ball and get into areas where you’ll affect the game, in between the posts and in the box" concluded former England defender.

Regardless of his impressive first season in England, where he scored 16 goals, his current form must improve if he wants to earn Amorim’s trust.
