Kenyan youngster is on the verge of obtaining Serbian citizenship and will be awarded much-needed minutes in one top division slot
There's no shortcut to the top. Only hard work, devotion and bits of luck to seize an opportunity.
Just ask Richard Odada, the 20-year-old promising Kenyan youngster whose unorthodox path has led him to Serbia and once-giants Red Star Belgrade. After three years in Belgrade and eventually months spent on loan at second-tier team Graficar earlier in the season, he was promoted to the first team of the club that has won its fourth national title in a row.
However, only two modest appearances not longer than 20 minutes respectively were not enough for Odada to convince a coach, a former Inter and Lazio legend Dejan Stankovic, to give him a more significant role in the team.
That's why Stankovic and his coaching staff have decided to send the former AFC Leopards offspring on another loan to gain some much-needed experience of playing competitive senior football. Only this time to a top division side yet to be chosen. As per the club's CEO Zvezdan Terzic, they have also started a procedure for obtaining a Serbian passport for Odada.
"I hope that we will finish it successfully and that he will go somewhere on loan in the Super League. We are searching for a club that will suit him the most," concluded Terzic.
