The two clubs met in a National Super League (NSL) match that was played on Thursday, 30 October at the Thika Municipal Stadium from 1500 hrs.

MOFA went into the match on the back of a two-match winless run: a 1-0 loss to Kibera Black Stars and a goalless draw against Darajani Gogo.

Charles Bruno's charges began the match on the front foot and reaped the fruits of their labour in the fourth minute when Kevin Bulimo tucked the ball into the back of the net.

The Homa Bay-based side continued to dominate as the game approached the 25th-minute mark, but started fading away as the half progressed. Nevertheless, they were able to hold on to their lead until halftime.

In the second half, Kabati came back as a more rejuvenated side, with more moves and risks applied to their attack early on, but those only resulted in half-chances.

The Murang'a-based side’s efforts paid off when they earned a contentious penalty in the 83rd minute, despite very minimal contact from one of the MOFA defenders.

A lengthy stoppage was witnessed as MOFA players staged a protest for the dubious penalty awarded, but after calm was restored, Vincent Oduor made no mistake from 12 yards.

The officiating drama did not end there as the referee flashed a second yellow card to Kevin Mwaura, but did not produce a red card.

Following another breakage in play, both teams held firm in a tense finale to share the spoils.

Despite earning a point, Kabati's poor start to the NSL continued with what is now their fifth game without a win, having secured two draws and three defeats.

MOFA will also have to try for the fourth time to secure their third win of the season. MOFA are now sixth on the log with eight points to their name.

In the other match of the day, Darajani Gogo secured their first win of the season, edging former FKF Premier League side Nairobi City Stars 1-0 in a match played at the Marist International University in Karen.

The all-important goal was scored by Edwin Ouko in the 18th minute, which takes their point tally to four, while Simba wa Nairobi are ninth on the log with six points.
