Defending league champions move to within touching distance of leaders KCB and AFC Leopards.

A first half strike from winger Clifton Miheso gave the defending champions Gor Mahia all the three points as K'Ogalo continued with their FKF Premier League resurgence.

A chance to jump upto fifth place on the league standings and reduce the gap to log leading KCB to only eight points was on the cards when defending champions Gor Mahia took to the field to take on a struggling Vihiga United side in a rescheduled Football Kenya Federation Premier League fixture that took place at Mumias Complex on Thursday afternoon.

In the reverse first leg fixture, the county funded side had stunned the defending champions after grabbing all the three points with a heart wrenching 86th minute strike. In the second leg, Gor would have certainly had other ideas, with revenge being the most prominent thought.

After a lethargic opening half hour, the clearest chance of the game fell to Gor's Clifton Miheso in the 31st minute. The winger found himself one on one with Vihiga keeper Mustapha Oduor and when he thought he had breached the entire defense, Oduor spared his team's blushes by pushing the effort out for a corner kick after a huge save, much to the relief of his beaten defense.

Nine minutes later, on a second invitation, Miheso would not miss through a different route. He unleashed a thunderbolt from outside that beat everyone including the goalkeeper on its way to the back of the net and the opening goal of the game, Gor 1-0 up, a lead they would keep until half time.

Upon second half resumption, both teams were unable to conjure up clear cut goal scoring opportunities. Karim Abdoul's attempt in the 54th minute was comfortably smothered by the Vihiga goalkeeper.

Wafula's attempt in the 64th minute from Vihiga was also comfortably handled by Gad Mathews in the Gor goal.

Despite both sides bringing in fresh legs from the benches, a lack of creativity in the final third by Vihiga United and a seemingly contented green army saw Gor comfortably hold onto their one goal advantage to claim all three points and jump into fifth place on the log on 28 points and in turn extending their unbeaten run since the league resumed.
