The Rising Stars midfielder received the accolade during an award ceremony held on the sidelines of the team’s training session on Friday, 8 May, at Jamhuri High School Grounds.

Wangaya beat stiff competition from teammate Michael Karamor, APS Bomet defender Edward Masembe, and Kenya Police goalkeeper Daniel Ogembo to scoop the monthly award.

The 20-year-old midfielder registered six goal contributions in April, three goals and three assists, while also attempting 13 shots and creating numerous big chances.

Wangaya’s impressive month began on April 1 when he broke the deadlock in the 66th minute as Nairobi United settled for a 1-1 draw against Mara Sugar.

He then played a starring role in Nairobi United’s dramatic 4-2 comeback victory over Murang'a Seal after the side had fallen two goals behind early in the match.

In that encounter, Wangaya scored the fourth goal from a direct free kick and also provided two assists as Karamor netted a hat-trick.

The former Laiser Hill Academy student capped off the month with another goal against Mathare United, capitalizing on an error by goalkeeper Kevin Ouru to open the scoring in a 2-1 victory.

Speaking after receiving the award, Wangaya dedicated the recognition to his teammates and technical bench.

“I am so happy to win this award. It comes as a result of the hard work and the massive support from teammates and the coaches. I believe it is an award for the whole Nairobi United,” said Wangaya.

Since joining Nairobi United during the January mid-season transfer window, the Ligi Ndogo graduate has quickly established himself as a key figure in the team’s attack, emerging as one of the club’s most impactful mid-season signings.

For his outstanding performances, Wangaya received a personalized trophy alongside a KSh50,000 cash prize.
