Saad Musa chose to represent South Sudan ahead of Kenya.

AFC Leopards midfielder Saad Musa revealed that he chose to represent South Sudan ahead of Kenya as it hands him a better chance of playing international football.

Saad has made a number of appearances for the South Sudan national team with the most memorable being the 1-0 win over Uganda in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Saad opened up on his decision to chose South Sudan ahead of Kenya as it boosts his CV.

“I have dual citizenship from South Sudan and Kenya but I saw it best to represent the former because it would hand me more opportunities of playing international football.”

“This would enhance my chances when I will be looking for better offers because teams look at how many cups you have earned,” explained Saad.

Saad is half Nubian, half Luhya and his father’s roots can be traced back to South Sudan but noted that the decision to represent Bright Stars was a challenging one.

He had to seek the advice of his former coach Anthony Kimani and Tom Juma who is part of the AFC Leopards technical bench to help him arrive at a concrete decision.

The former Thika United midfielder also opened up on how life has so far been to represent Africa’s youngest nation and compared football between the two countries.

“It has been a wonderful experience, you have been given a good platform. I was given a warm welcome - you really have no reason not to perform. Kenya is a better nation in terms of football, South Sudan, however, is trying to build from scratch, in the next two or three years, they will be no pushovers,” added the midfielder.

Saad noted that the decision was one of the best he has ever made in life.
