The Turkish club immediately entered the race to sign the Egyptian and, as things stand, they appear to be the most serious contender

Mohamed Salah is reportedly leaning towards turning down a lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League, with an unexpected continuation of his career in Europe now on the cards. The Egyptian star is preparing to leave Liverpool as a free agent this summer, and while many expected him to head to the Middle East, Turkey has emerged as a serious alternative.

In a development few predicted, Fenerbahce are said to be leading the race for his signature. Despite years of speculation linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia, reports suggest Salah is not ready to step away from top-level European football. According to Turkish outlet A Spor, club representatives have already held two rounds of talks with his camp.

The 33-year-old is nearing the end of a historic nine-year spell at Anfield. Although his contract had previously been extended until 2027, an agreement has been reached for him to depart on a free transfer as part of a mutual decision. Financially, any deal would be significant—Salah is believed to be targeting a weekly wage of around £333,000, which would keep him among the highest-paid players in the game.

Should he make the switch to Istanbul, he would join an ambitious squad that already includes high-profile names such as Ederson and N'Golo Kante, both of whom have been linked with moves to the Turkish giants in recent windows.

Staying within a competitive European setting appears to be a key priority for Salah. While Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has reportedly identified him as a marquee figure to follow in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo, his representatives have remained cautious about any decision.

Fenerbahce are not alone in tracking his situation. Ibrahim Hassan, a senior figure within the Egyptian national setup, has indicated that clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also interested. He has openly encouraged Salah to remain at the highest level of the European game.

"Personally, I would prefer him to stay in Europe," Hassan told ON Sport. "I have heard of offers from Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and clubs from Italy."

He also advised against a potential switch to Major League Soccer, where New York City FC have shown interest. "A move to MLS? He would be far too out of the spotlight. You won't remember him any more than I remember Lionel Messi now. I don't even watch him," Hassan added.

Before any move is finalized, Salah remains focused on finishing his time at Liverpool on a high. A recent hamstring issue picked up in a 3–1 win over Crystal Palace raised concerns that he might have already played his final match for the club. However, he is expected to return before the season ends, giving supporters at Anfield a proper farewell.
