Schick counts to four in Lever's demolishing win

Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 21.12.24. | 23:29

The Czech netted four out of five of Bayer's goals and was the most deserving of the convincing victory over Freiburg - 5-1

The crisis is behind Bayer Leverkusen! During the last month, Xabi Alonso's men won 8/8 games, scoring five goals in three of them - the latest one tonight against Freiburg 5-1. Even though Lever initially struggled and despite Florian Wirtz's missed penalty, Lever were 1-0 up at the break thanks to Patrik Schick's added-time opener.

However, no one could know that it was only the beginning of the Czech's show! Wirtz still scored in the 51st minute for 2-0, but when the visitors made it 2-1 over Vincenzo Grifo only four minutes later, many expected a tough 40 minutes for Bayer.

But they did not know what Schick was up to, as the 28-year-old forward scored three more goals in only ten minutes (?!) - between the 67th and 77th - for Lever's demolishing 5-1 triumph, which moves them closer to the leaders Bayern Munich and hints at the two-team race for the Bundesliga title.

The Bavarians top the table, four points ahead of Bayer and can be satisfied with the current situation ahead of the 18-day break in the Bundesliga. However, considering Alonso's crew's recent performances, the title race is far from over, especially since the duel between the two contenders in the upcoming part of the season will be played at BayArena.
