Judith Okumu's 25th minute spot kick goal was enough to hand the side the title they last won in 2014

Butere Girls are the new champions of Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national games after drubbing defending champions Wiyeta Girls in an evenly contested tie staged in front of a fully packed Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega county.

Judith Okumu's 25th minute spot kick goal was enough to hand Butere a title they last won in 2014, marking their return to East Africa Secondary School Games with silverware.

Red Commandos qualified to the finals after edging out other Western region ambassadors Madira Girls with the same score line in the last four while Edgar Manyara's Wiyeta labored to a 3-1 win on post-match penalities to advance to the finals against a stubborn Dagoretti Mixed.

Wiyeta, who last year lost in the finals of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association Games, have however booked a ticket to the regional stage despite stumbling in the finals.

Elsewhere, Friends School Madira left it late courtesy of a Valerie Nekesa strike to beat Nairobi champions Dagoretti Mixed a goal to nil in a match played at Mukumu Boys grounds to book a place in East Africa Secondary Schools Games in their first-ever attempt.

For the first time in school games competitions history, Kenya will have more three representatives in each discipline with the top three in the football category both boys and girls getting a chance to shoot at the coveted regional gong.
