Shabana recorded a big drop in revenue for their game against Nzoia Sugar FC at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay on Saturday afternoon.
The Glamour Boys recorded the much-needed win over the ten-man Millers to move off the red zone. Goals from Vincent Nyabuto and Brian Michira helped Shabana pick up a 2-1 win. Victor Haki scored the consolation goal for the visitors in a match that Nzoia captain Harun Thomas saw red in the second minute of the match.
As the newbies celebrated bagging maximum points on the pitch, off it there was a financial dent as the Homabay Stadium, which has been packed for most of the Glamour Boys’ home games, witnessed a drop-in attendance of almost half, and that was reflected in the amount collected from ticket sales.
Shabana have been averaging over KES 600,000 in revenue collected per home game, but on Saturday they collected half of that, which perhaps serves as a warning alarm for the club administrators to put measures in place to ensure that the team performs well consistently.
A total of 1,939 tickets were sold for the game. 1,396 regular tickets and 543 VIP tickets were sold, and the amount collected was KES 302,500. For context, during their opening match of the season against Murang’a Seal at the same venue, a total of 4,363 tickets were sold. 835 were VIP tickets, while 3500 were regular ones. For the game against the Kariobangi Sharks, they sold 4,160 tickets.
Some of the fans who opted to stay away from the stadium took to social media to urge the team to win the game if they expected support from them.
