AFC Leopards midfielder Collins Shichenje is reportedly close to moving to PAOK, a top-tier club in Greece.
AFC Leopards midfielder Collins Shichenje has been heavily linked with a move to Greek top-tier side PAOK FC according to multiple reports in the country. The teenager who only signed a two-year contract extension with Ingwe in October last year is said to have attracted serious interest from the Greek outfit and that the club is closing in on completing the deal.
The teenager is already enjoying his playing time at AFC Leopards after completing his move from the then National Super League side Green Commandos. The former Kakamega High School alumni featured prominently for former boss Anthony ‘Modo’ Kimani and is expected to continue in the center of the park under new head coach Patrick Aussems should he stay at the club.
An insider at the club confirmed details of the proposed move and confirmed that it is only paper works that have made the move to stall as Shichenje has not yet received his visa.
“The speculation is true and Shichenje is supposed to be making the move to Greece. The only problem at the moment is that He is waiting for his visa, that’s all I can say. This move was supposed to happen around January but there are still delays with the visa,” the source noted.
Shichenje, who had previously been called up to the national team by former head coach Francis Kimanzi, missed out owing to an injury that ruled him out. This time, however, the midfielder will be hoping he makes it to the final squad after being picked up once again by current head coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee.
It is a case of wait and see to see if the deal for the promising midfielder will sail through to join other Kenyan players in making the move abroad. The most recent being Masoud Juma, who was unveiled at Moroccan top-tier side Difaa El Jadida.
