The suspension of sports in the country is making AFC Leopards defender Collins Shivachi a better dad.

With a majority of players bemoaning the suspension of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) AFC Leopards defender, Collins Shivachi is enjoying his time off football by spending more time with his daughter.

Sports in the country has been put on hold following a directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta after the country recorded a spike in Covid-19 cases.

Shivachi has however chosen to pick positives from trying times as he maximises his spare time to foster a bond with his daughter which in turn leads to saving an extra coin.

“Right now I'm mostly babysitting because you cannot add further costs by employing a nanny, you know you cannot get income while staying at home, you have to cut some expenses and this is one of the ways.”

“I wake up and do some personal exercise then spend the rest of my day babysitting, when her mum returns early from work I can get time to spend with some of my friends in the evening,” said Shivachi in an interview with KTN.

The right-back and AFC Leopards have enjoyed an outstanding season that has seen them sit third on the log with 29 points from 14 games with two games in hand over log leaders Tusker FC.

The tough-tackling defender however had seconds thoughts about his daughter following his footsteps of spending the entire career in the country if she was to venture into football.

“She is a girl but if she was to play football she will have to go abroad, maybe play a few years at start of her career here but I will put emphasis on education and get some side hustle besides playing football,”

“I'm saying so because I have seen a number of players suffer, the situation can change when we have more sponsors investing in youth football because there is talent, we have a number of players playing abroad,” added Shivachi.

The former Tusker FC defender believes that AFC Leopards stand a better chance of ending their 22-year wait for a league title.
