The club had to do with only twelve players last season
Vihiga United are free to sign and register new players after the transfer ban on the club was lifted on Tuesday by world football governing body, FIFA.
The club was slapped with the transfer embargo at the start of 2021/2022 season for failing to pay Ksh.200,000 in salary arrears owed to their former player Adefeya Oluwasegun Junior who featured for them in 2019/2020 while in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.
Vihiga, had to survive on a lean squad of less than twelve players in the past term with a number of clubs being players being played out of position.
CLUB STATEMENT
Vihiga United Football Club can confirm that the transfer ban imposed by FIFA on the club has been lifted. FIFA informed the club via email, dated 7th September.
The club is happy to have this matter cleared with the world football governing body. We look forward to the upcoming season with renewed focus, as recruitment of players and new season preparation are set to get underway," read the club statement.
In a letter by FIFA's head of judicial bodies Julien Deux dated September 7 and seen by Mozzart Sport, indicated that the case against Vihiga had been closed.
"In view of the foregoing, we would like to inform the parties that the present disciplinary proceedings against the respondent, the club Vihiga United FC, are hereby closed since the parties settled their dispute, and hence, the registration ban imposed has been lifted," stated part of the letter.
After the lifting of the ban United are expected to flock the transfer market in search of new arsenals to bolster their side that has lost quite a considerable number of players to other NSL clubs.
With the transfer window set to close this weekend, it will be interesting to see how many players the club will manage to sign before the deadline.
