In an announcement shared on their official Facebook page, the 2009 league champions welcomed Kungah, describing his arrival as a timely step in strengthening the club’s administrative and commercial arm ahead of the new FKF-PL campaign.
"We are very pleased and excited to introduce Mr. Herbert Kungah as our new Sofapaka FC CEO. He brings on board a wealth of experience and marketing skills that will be useful for the team going forward this season. Welcome, Sir, to Batoto Ba Mungu,” the club posted.
Kungah, 38, is no stranger to the local football scene.
A former defender with Nairobi City Stars and Ligi Ndogo FC, he retired from active football before carving out a career in marketing, brand management, and business development.
Most recently, he secured a deal as Kenya’s market lead for sportswear company Mafro Sports, while also engaging in operations, events, and project management within the sports industry.
Beyond corporate roles, Kungah is the founder of Wacheza-Tu-Invest, an initiative designed to mentor players on financial literacy and prepare them for life beyond professional football.
His appointment comes nearly two months after the departure of former Sofapaka CEO Ronald Okoth, who exited on 16 July to take up a similar role at Tanzanian second-tier side Kagera Sugar.
Kungah faces the critical task of steering Sofapaka’s commercial revival, particularly in securing sponsorship and partnerships.
The club has operated without a major sponsor since early 2024, a gap that has placed significant strain on its operations.
