Sofapaka FC hitman Jacob Onyango says he wants to score more this campaign after finding the back of the net just twice in the 2022–23 season, largely due to limited playtime.
The player appears to have moved up in the pecking order following the departure of a couple of senior strikers in the team. He is now just behind Fiston Abdoul Razak in the pecking order. He has featured as a sub in the last two league games of the season.
Last season, the player scored just two goals, both coming in the second-last match of the season against AFC Leopards at the Nyayo National Stadium. In an interview, the player spoke of his desire to find the back of the net more often. It is a goal he believes he can achieve with more game time under his belt.
"I definitely want to score more goals this season. Last season I got two, and I believe that with more game time this season, I will find the back of the net more often," he stated.
Asked about his personal target, the player opted not to give a specific number but said he wants to make the most of the opportunities that come his way.
"I have a target that I have set for myself, but I am not going to talk about it at this point; I will do that when I finally achieve it, but for now I will just keep working hard and grab every chance that comes my way and see how far I can go," he added.
He also believes that his team will be involved in this season’s title race.
"We have a good team and technical bench. I believe that we have a squad capable of contesting for the league title this campaign, and teams should watch out for us," he concluded.
Next for Sofapaka is an away game against Posta Rangers on Sunday 17th September.
