Sofapaka have roped in their sixth transfer in the January window after bringing in Bernard Muiruri Gichuki.
Sofapaka have etched themselves deeper into the Taita Taveta community once again after signing Bernard Muiruri Gichuki from a local grassroots club, Taveta Sisal.
The club caught many by surprise after moving their home matches from Nairobi to the Danson Mwanyumba Stadium in Wundanyi after the county government of Taita Taveta offered to cater for the expenses incurred in hosting league matches.
However, many saw the move as a ploy to double their fan base and transition into a community club.
To consolidate the growing ties with the local community, Sofapaka have opted to sign Gichuki who penned a four-year deal with the 2009 league champions.
The youngster impressed Sofapaka scouts during the Granton Samboja tournament held during the festive season where he helped Taita Sisal claim the title.
He was subsequently invited for trials, a hurdle he successfully overcame to win him an opportunity to ply his trade in the country's elite football competition.
"I am delighted to join a club of Sofapaka's calibre. I hope I will help them achieve their targets for the time I will be in their books, " he said on the club's online portal
Gichuki becomes the sixth signing by the free-spending club. Earlier, the three-time FKF Cup winners had broken the bank and filled the foreign slots with Burundian imports David Nshimirimana and Amisi Bizima.
The club shipped in Togolese goalkeeper Abdoul-Moubarak Aigba who represented his country in the recently concluded African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament in Cameroon.
Meanwhile, Sofapaka head coach Ken Odhiambo has been handed a boost ahead of their Wednesday league match against KCB as Mohammed Kilume and Michael Bodo have recovered from various injuries and will be ready for selection. Kilume was stretchered off during their league match against Zoo, thanks to an ankle injury while Bodo has been nursing a groin injury.
However, Odhiambo will miss the services of his centre half and Harambee Stars trialist Stephen Okola who picked a knock during their last outing against Ulinzi Stars at the Kericho Green Stadium.
