Solskjaer: We’re not title contenders, Redknapp: Ole is wrong!

Manchester United’s season is in turmoil at the moment. Ole Gunnar Solskjar’s men were not considered title contenders at the beginning, but their excellent performances in the first half of the season eventually brought them to the top of the table. They were the best away team in the league but conceded four home defeats, they had problems with Paul Pogba’s attitude and his super-agent Mino Raiola, but the Frenchman has been excellent since and so on and so on.

After a series of bad results, including the disappointed 3-3 draw against Everton (and coinciding the 3rd goal in the last minute of the game), Manchester United manager „threw in the towel“ and declared that his team is not in the title race.

„We're not talking about winning titles, we've come a long way this team, and we shouldn't have been considered as title contenders. We've got to be better as a team and see where we end up“ said Solskajer to Sky Sports after the match.

Immediately, he got a response, from a Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp, who questioned Ole’s motivation.

„They should be aiming for the title, this is a unique year, you're not gonna have a better chance. Liverpool have lost players. Going forward, this United team should be believing. This is the year anything is possible. They're not kids, are they? They're full of experience. He should be telling this team to believe you can do it. City are by far and away the best team, but they might have a blip still“ said Redknapp.

Even the former Red Devil’s midfielder Paul Scholes, now also a pundit acknowledged that Manchester are now in a difficult position, but still doesn’t think they should be giving up.

„It's going to be difficult from now on I think. But they've got to keep going, they've got to keep fighting, they've got to keep believing“ said Scholes to BT sports.

Definitely, Red Devils need a confidence boost. The last game has been especially frustrating, after they conceded the last-minute goal for 3-3, after leading 2-0 and 3-2. One of the scorers, Bruno Fernandes was critical of his team-mates in defense.

„I think we gave away the result, we gave away the game twice. Because after being 2-0 up at half-time, coming into the second half in the way we did, it's really bad. We are conceding goals every game, we are conceding goals a lot of times and at home, we concede too many goals. Too many bad results at home and this can't be possible. I think we have to win this game after being 2-0 up, you have to win this game. It doesn't matter how. You concede two goals and you come again and you score again. It's impossible to concede another goal again, from a free-kick in the half of the pitch, we concede a goal from there and the way we concede“ said Fernandes.
