A whopping 17 African teams are currently playing their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches home away from home due to lack of approved stadiums in their backyards.
Kenya played Seychelles in their Group F game on Monday in Ivory Coast, while fellow group member Burundi staged their fixture in Tanzania.
As many as seven sides, including Ethiopia, Burkina Faso and Somalia are having their fixtures in Morocco.
According to South Africa's Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, moving forward, CAF, the Confederation of African Football, should ban countries that cannot host their games.
South Africa will twice play Zimbabwe in South Africa next year, a situation Broos thinks is not proper.
“This one thing I don’t understand in African football is that home games are not home games,” said Broos.
“I think Zimbabwe will play their home games in South Africa, so we have a little advantage for that game."
“So, what I saw in the past, for example, Liberia played their home game in Morocco, I’m very sorry but this is not correct. I think CAF must do something about this."
“I know it is not easy for those countries to have appropriate stadiums because it is something about money, but you can easily say, ‘in five years, if you don’t have a stadium, then you don’t play CAF games anymore, you don’t play AFCON qualifiers and that of the World Cup."
The Harambee Stars are expected to host their first qualifiers at home against The Gambia and Burundi in June next year.
With Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums, two of the country's biggest sporting facilities, officially closed for renovation, Stars could be forced to source for an alternative venue across borders.
Stars opened their campaign with a bitter 2-1 loss at Gabon before recovering to thump Seychelles 5-0 in their second fixture.
