Three Kenyans clock valuable minutes as their teams register draws in South Africa, Denmark and England.
Three Kenyans plying their trades abroad in South Africa, Denmark and England registered draws for their respective teams on Tuesday, January 26.
Anthony Akumu
Kenyan international Anthony Akumu clocked 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw against Baroka FC in the South African Premier Soccer League.
The defensive midfielder was again deployed in the center back role by coach Garvin Hunt as he partnered with Eric Mathoho at the heart of the defense.
Hunt has tapped into Akumu’s physicality and a knack of well-timed tackles to the maximum as he has smoothly transitioned into his new role.
Thamsanqa Masiya opened the scoring for Baroka in the 53rd minute before Goodman Mosele turned the ball into his own net with 14 minutes left on the clock as Chiefs picked up a point.
Baroka has been a bogey team for Chiefs in the last decade with Amakhosi managing only three wins in 12 encounters.
Anthony AkumuDaniel Anyembe
Defender Daniel Anyembe featured for his side Esbjerg in a club-friendly against Vejle Boldklub that ended in a barren draw.
Danish football is currently on a winter break as the calendar is expected to resume in the second week of February as most teams are currently engaged in friendly to boost their match fitness ahead of the league resumption.
Esbjerg plies their trade in the Danish 1st Division which is the second tier while Vejle are in the Superliga.
The right-back is eligible to play for Harambee Stars as he is born to a Kenyan father and Danish mother.
The 22-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance for Denmark despite playing for the junior sides from the under 17 level.
Daniel Anyemeb (40)Jonah Ayunga
Forward Jonah Ayunga came on as a 68th-minute substitute for Bristol Rovers in the barren draw against Peterborough United in the English League One.
Ayunga was sent in by coach Paul Tisdale in place of Erhun Öztümer as Rovers went in search of a winner against the promotion-chasing Peterborough.
The draw arrested a torrid run of five straight losses for Rovers and kept them one point above the relegation zone.
Ayunga has scored one goal for Rovers this season in the EFL Trophy against Walsall and will be hoping to break his 17 game goal drought in the next match against Rochdale.
