Harper featured for the entire 90 minutes in the tightly contested encounter, earning an impressive 7.1 rating as Walsall opened a four-point gap at the top of the table and strengthened their push for promotion to League One.
Operating on the left side of a back three, the Kenyan defender put in a disciplined shift on a cold night, winning tackles, making key clearances and interceptions, and dominating in ground duels.
He finished the match with 62 touches, misplacing only one.
Daniel Kanu produced the decisive moment of the evening, capitalizing on a loose back pass in the 28th minute to round Matthew Huson and fire into an empty net.
The goal took his tally to ten in all competitions this season and ensured the Saddlers maintained their impressive momentum on the road.
Earlier, Charlie Lakin had gone close for Walsall with a shot from the edge of the area, while Oldham's Joe Quigley struck the inside of the post in the 14th minute.
After Kanu’s opener, the visitors managed the game well, keeping their shape and limiting Oldham’s chances as they went into the break with the advantage.
The second half offered few clear openings, with Jellis delivering a dangerous corner that Jamille Matt failed to head home.
Ryan Finnigan and Brandon Comley were introduced past the hour mark as Walsall sought to double their lead, but they ultimately settled for a professional 1-0 victory.
The Saddlers now sit on 38 points, ahead of Notts County, who remain second with 34.
Meanwhile, in the Championship, Harambee Stars hopeful Zak Vyner featured for Bristol City as they fought back from two goals down to secure a valuable point in a 2-2 draw against Leicester City at Ashton Gate on Wednesday night.
Vyner, the club’s all-time Championship appearance record holder, played the opening 45 minutes before being withdrawn for Neto Borges in a tactical adjustment at halftime.
Despite the early substitution, he delivered a solid shift, recording important tackles, clearances, and aerial duels as City tried to keep Leicester at bay.
Jordan Ayew opened the scoring for the visitors from the penalty spot, and Bobby De Cordova-Reid added a second just before the break to leave Bristol facing an uphill task.
The restart, however, brought renewed energy from the hosts, with Mark Sykes pulling one back early in the second half, injecting belief into the side, and as pressure mounted, Emil Riis struck in the 83rd minute to earn a deserved point for Bristol City.
