In Tanzania, Kenyan midfielder Abuya played the full 90 minutes as his Young Africans (Yanga) side let their lead slip twice, to lose their first game of the Mainland Tanzania Premier League season.

This came after the visitors, playing at the Airtel Stadium in Singida, conceded twice in added time to lose 3-2 to Dodoma Jiji, blowing the door for the title race wide open.

Abuya, now a consistent starter for Yanga, had seen his side take a 2-1 lead at halftime, thanks to a pair of strikes from Ugandan forward Allan Okello, coming either side of a Bakari Mwamnyeto own goal in the 29th minute.

Despite coming up against the side with the only remaining unbeaten record in the league, lowly Dodoma Jiji made sure an upset was on the cards when DR Congo’s Mwana Kibuta scored an equalizer in the 90th minute, before Junior Waziri netted a late winner for the hosts in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

The defeat dealt Yanga a huge blow in their race to defend the Premier League title, leaving them just five points ahead of rivals Simba, who have a game in hand against ninth-placed Mashujaa on Thursday, 14 May.

Meanwhile in Zambia, Kenyan striker Osoro was back in team action for Power Dynamos as they also let a lead slip to draw 2-2 with Mutondo Stars at the Arthur Davies Stadium.

Osoro, who was left out of the team’s 2-0 defeat to Red Arrows in the Absa Cup final on Sunday, was named among the substitutes, before making his way to the field at the beginning of the second half, replacing Austin Muwowo as part of a halftime triple substitution.

By that time, hosts Dynamo, who secured their ninth league title with four games left to the end of the season, were leading 1-0, thanks to a ninth-minute goal from Linos Makwaza Jr.

Frederick Mulambia would later give Aba Yellow a 2-0 lead in the 57th minute, only for Mutondo Stars to mount a comeback, scoring in the 64th and 86th minutes, all while missing a penalty with 12 minutes left on the clock.

Osoro’s fellow countryman, Moses Shumah, was, however, not needed for this contest, keeping his place on the bench, days after having a forgettable afternoon in the aforementioned cup final.

With no jeopardy involved, Power Dynamos are now left with two games to wrap up their Zambian Super League season.
