Stars abroad: Johana scores as Okumu suffers injury

Eric Johanna registered a goal and assist in his first game of the season while Joseph Okumu was stretchered off with an injury.
Kenyans plying their trade abroad registered mixed results on Sunday with Eric Johana getting his campaign of to a flier with a goal and assist while Joseph Okumu suffered an injury.

Kenyan international Johanna Omolo clocked 90 minutes for Erzurumspor in the 2-4 loss to BeÅŸiktaÅŸ in the Turkish Super League.
The loss leaves Erzurumspor deep in the relegation quagmire as they are six points from safety.
The first half of the game proved to be a goal fest as BeÅŸiktaÅŸ opened the scoring through Cayle Larin in the ninth minute while Leo Schwechlen equalized seven minutes later.
Beşiktaş restored their lead through Oguzhan Özyakup while Emrah Başsan ensured Erzurumspor went into the break level.
Rachid Ghezzal and Gokhan Tore were on the score sheet in the second half as BeÅŸiktaÅŸ opened up a seven point gap at the summit of the table.

Kenyan defender Philipp Mwene continued with his impressive run of games as he started for Mainz in the 2-3 win over Cologne in the German Bundesliga.
The win eases Mainz relegation woes as they now enjoy a two point buffer against Arminia Bielefeld while Cologne are now sucked into the relegation dogfight.
Jean Boëtius broke the deadlock in the 11th minute while Ondrej Duda restored parity for Cologne from the spot with two minutes left on the clock to half time.
Ellyes Skhiri put Cologne ahead a minute after the hour mark while goals from Karim Onisiwo four minutes later and a stoppage time winner from Leandro Barreiro sealed three points for Mainz.

Joseph Okumu
Kenyan international Joseph Okumu was unfortunate to be stretchered off in Elfsborg’s 0-2 loss to Djurgården in the Swedish top tier league.
Okumu went down with an injury in the 61st minute and was replaced by Christopher McVey after Aslak Wiltry and Edward Chilufya had scored for Djurgården.’
The former Chemelil Sugar defender will be hoping to recover from his injury as he continues to be linked with Scottish champions Rangers.

Eric Johanna
Kenyan international Eric Johanna was on the score sheet and capped his wonderful performance with an assist as Jönköpings Södra thumped Vasalund 5-1.
Johanna faced off with another Kenyan Anthony Wambani who turns out for Vasalund as they opened the scoring through Mai Traore.
They were however reduced to 10 men when Charbel Georges was handed his marching orders for a second yellow card.
The flurry of goals started in the second half with Perparim Beqaj, Daniel Ljung, Johanna, Adrian Edqvist and Elias Nordström getting their names in the score sheet.
Johanna assisted Edqvist’s goal in the 71st minute to kick off the season on a high after suffering disappointment by being dropped from the Harambee Stars squad.
