The strike ended up being the only goal of the game, and crucially played a part in ending the club’s month-long wait for a win.
Before Wednesday, Al Arabi last registered a win on 6 December, when they beat Al Khor 4-3 in the QSL Cup.
A run of two straight defeats in the competition continued, before the side ended 2025 with a 2-2 draw with Al Rayyan in the league on 28 December.
On an individual level, Olunga’s assist was his first goal involvement in over a month, his last being the brace he scored against Qatar SC on 23 November.
On Wednesday, the 31-year-old had two total shots - none on target - but ranked highly in the passing stats, making two key passes, and had a 73 percent accuracy in passes inside the opposition half.
The Kenyan will now hope to end his wait for a goal on Thursday, 15 January, when Al Arabi face league leaders Al Gharafa at home.
The latest win for Al Arabi saw them climb to fifth on the log with 20 points from 12 matches.
