The struggling pair of Vihiga United and Mathare United will be out to kick-start their survival campaign when they clash in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match at the Ruaraka grounds.

Mathare who boast of winning the league in 2008 sit rock bottom of the log with six points, five shy of their matchday opponents who are just above them.

The two sides strained to string consecutive wins in the past rounds of the competition and to add salt to injury, both camps claim that the break occasioned by a presidential decree disrupted their survival plans.

Ahead of the match, Mathare winger John Mwangi says the suspension of sporting activities came at a time when they had begun gathering steam but expressed optimism in putting the visitors to the sword.

"The break slightly affected us but that can not be an excuse as all teams downed their tools. The only positive bit with it is players who were injured have recovered and joined us in training in the past week. As players, we have resolved to help the team beat the drop by all costs, " said the former national U20 player.

On the other hand, newly re-appointed Vihiga boss Mike Muiruri called on his players to make every scoring chance created count.

The club opted to bring Muiruri back after parting ways with Sammy Okoth last week under unclear circumstances.

"Truth be told, I have not had the opportunity to train the players but I am certain every coach is worried about the fitness levels of his players. I expect a rather slow game as coaches can not demand 100 per cent from unfit players. The only way we can win this match is converting our chances, " said the immediate former Sofapaka assistant coach.
