Swedish top-tier side Djurgardens confirm interest in Gor Mahia's Frank Odhiambo

Thriving Gor Mahia centre back Frank Odhiambo is on the verge of joining Djurgardens IF if reports from Sweden are anything to go by.

As quoted by the footballskanlen Djurgardens sports director Bosse Anderson confirmed that talks between the club, his employer and the fast-rising defender were at an advanced stage.

Odhiambo had in recent days been linked with a move to Europe although his handlers have worked tirelessly to ensure that the information doesn’t go past the earshot.

However, it has emerged that Djurgardens who raided the Gor camp in 2016 and left with Michael Olunga are in the forefront to break the bank and acquire Odhiambo’s signature.

Anderson told the footballskanlen that they had closely monitored the former national U20 defender’s progression since making his top flight bow in May last year.

“I know the name and can confirm that we have been in contact with the club and had discussions. I can confirm that. We have a dialogue and know the player but it is not clear at all,” he told the sports website.

When reached for a comment regarding the latest development, Frank said his agent was responsible and better placed to give more details on the ongoing negotiations

Odhiambo whose sole strike gave Gor maximum points in their last league match against Mathare United joined the club late in 2020 from division two outfit Bongonaya FC.

He made his debut for the record Kenyan champions during their 1-0 win over Nairobi City Stars last year in May and ever since, he has stuck in the starting team where he consistently partners Harun Shakava at the heart of the defence.

The towering defender was part of the national U23 team that finish fourth in last year’s CECAFA tournament held in Ethiopia. The defender has a number of Harambee Stars call ups under his belt but he is still waiting for his debut.
