Ex-Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart told an interesting story about one of England's best strikers
When you say Tottenham - you think Harry Kane. An incredible forward slowly built up his career and is now one of the most sought-after goalscorers on the planet.
Rafael van der Vaart revealed that former Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes thought Harry Kane 'couldn't do a damn thing' after watching him in training as a teenager.
The Spurs legend played at White Hart Lane when Kane was working his way through the ranks at senior level and at the time, not everyone in the Spurs squad rated him very highly.
Kane has since gone on to prove his doubters wrong, scoring 215 goals for the club in all competitions.
'A nice story, when he first came to train with us, he was eighteen years old, and I swear to you, Gomes, our goalkeeper at the time, said: "He can't do a damn thing", Van der Vaart told Ziggosport, explaining Gomes' opinion on Kane.
'You see, he is now the best striker after Lewandowski.'
The Dutchman also weighed in on Kane's future in North London amid suggestions that he may leave the club this summer.
Kane has been linked with Manchester United, Manchester City, following the announcement of Sergio Aguero's departure, as well as Real Madrid - with Red Devils legend Roy Keane urging the England captain to move on to win more trophies.
Van der Vaart agrees with Keane and believes that Old Trafford would be the best destination for him rather than the Bernabeu.
'He (Keane) is right, although, of course, he is the man at Tottenham,' he added. 'It may sound crazy, but you would almost say go to Manchester United or something, stay in England.
'Usually, it's not such a success when an English player goes to Madrid.'
Tottenham has an opportunity to level themselves with city rivals Chelsea who shockingly lost at home to West Brom 2-5. If Harry Kane continues his excellent form against Newcastle tomorrow, both London teams will have 51 points to their name.
