The under-fire boss will have to rely on his assistants for the next Premier League game
Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has ruled himself out of his club's next Premier League game because he received his third yellow card of the campaign.
The Dutchman is confident in the competence of his coaching team to lead the team during his touchline ban after the international break. Ten Hag was booked during the 1-0 victory against Luton Town at Old Trafford, with previous cautions against Tottenham and Arsenal.
His frustration came from a throw-in decision favouring Luton in the second half, adding tension to a closely contested match. This yellow card incurs a one-match touchline suspension, to be served in the upcoming Premier League game against Everton on 26 November.
"Yes, that's the way it is. I have to accept it. It's not nice, but I'm sure we'll prepare for Everton, and my coaching staff will take over; they are very competent to do the job."
Reflecting on the incident that led to the booking, he explained during the post-match press conference that he couldn't remain calm after yet another poor decision.
"But it was the second time. I was on top of it, and it was so clear and obvious it was our ball. It was my remark. Therefore, I got booked."
When asked about the possibility of fining himself, Ten Hag commented that he had good news for his wallet.
"If the players get a red card, they probably get fined. But, for a booking, they don't get fined. There is a certain point you have to accept decisions, what I should do as well."
Despite the managerial setback, Victor Lindelof's second-half goal secured three points for Manchester United in a hard-fought victory.
