Ten Hag's one-on-one meetings with players, as unrest is rising

Players are not apparenly satisfied with his no-nonsence approach anymore
Bad culture. That’s the key sentence whenever someone talks about the current Manchester United state of affairs. Moyes failure? Bad culture. Van Gaal? Bad culture. Mourinho? Bad culture. Sometimes, they also use the words ‘toxic atmosphere’. But since the owners cannot be changed, there came another manager to deal with ‘bad culture’. “It’s what the club asked me because there was no-good culture before last season, so to set some good standards, that is what I did. That is my job, to control the standards” coach Erik ten Hag said before the Brighton match in September. But after a few more defeats, it seems that he is not the man to deal with ‘bad culture’.
According to reports from The Telegraph and Daily Mail, many United players have been questioning Ten Hag’s methods and also believe that he has ‘favourites’ among the players. While everyone was on board with a ‘no-nonsense’ approach last season, it seems that this year, some of the players believe it’s just not working anymore. Two cases are highlighted: Jadon Sancho and Harry Maguire.
The United winger was completely frozen since he publicly opposed his coach, who left him out of the Arsenal squad due to poor training display. He has been out since, as all attempts to make him apologize to Ten Hag failed. The Dutch coach made Sancho’s life harder by removing him from the first team literally, as he is even forbidden from eating with his teammates. Some players find this to be a little to hard, especially in a situation when all other wingers in the team are as bad as Sancho (Rashford and Garnacno one goal, Antony none).
The other example is Harry Maguire. The expensive signing from Leicester was a regular player and captain before Ten Hag arrived. Now is neither. Hardly anyone would argue about this fact, given the form in which Maguire is currently, but he was rather harshly stripped of the captaincy, which was given to Bruno Fernandes. And then, at the game against Newcastle, which Bruno didn’t start, Maguire was not being named captain, even though the armband was changed three times during the game.
Unlike Sancho, Maguire is a model professional and doesn’t deserve this treatment. All these facts and other reports from the media forced Ten Hag to arrange a series of one-on-one meetings with the underperforming United stars. Those meetings will take place on Friday and Saturday as the Dutchman will look to investigate and get to the root of the problem. He will hear out the players and then analyze how he can solve the problem.
