As many as five teams could be in for the title this season after all the rescheduled matches are played
The Breakdown is a weekly football series that attempts to go beyond just the results posted by teams in a given match day in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League. We take a deeper look at the results of the day and the various consequences it has on the team, the league standings and what it means going forward. We try and break it down, literally.
The Title Race
After over 50 days of no action in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League, match day 17 marked the full resumption of footballing action in the country after the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage gave the green light for the league to resume in line with the set protocols.
Prior to the resumption of the league, Tusker FC had a four point advantage at the top over second placed KCB, and the Brewers looked like very strong solo runners in the 2020/2021 title hunt. But after the Robert Matano charges failed to take advantage of a 10-man KCB FC in their match that ended 0-0 at Ruaraka Grounds, that gap was reduced to only two points, consequently inviting three other teams in AFC Leopards, Kariobangi Sharks and KCB FC to the title party.

Currently, AFC Leopards sit in second place, but the Patrick Aussems coached side have a game in hand, which means that we could have a new name at the top of the table should Ingwe win their rescheduled match as they are only two short of log leading Tusker who have 34 points. What is even more motivating is the fact that Ingwe are currently chasing a first league title in over two decades and head coach Patrick Aussems has only lost one game since taking over back in February. Ingwe grabbed a hard fought 1-0 win over Nzoia Sugar to keep their elusive title chase alive.
Although the team still needs to improve in several areas, these 3 points are a good restart... good job guys ! pic.twitter.com/G0rObGKizK

Sharks shot up to third on the table after emerging 1-0 winners over Kakamega Homeboyz at Utalii Grounds.
Besides that, only four points separate top positioned Tusker and fourth placed KCB in the league standings as at now with KCB also yet to play their game in hand.
On the other hand, you cannot rule out defending champions Gor Mahia. The record 19-time champions seem to have shaken off their faulty league start with a super restart against Nairobi City Stars. K'Ogalo currently sits 6th on the log with 22 points, and with two games to play, if they win their games in hand, Gor have the chance to go to 5th, and within 6 points of Tusker.

After all the rescheduled matches are played and with FKF's recent announcement that the log leaders as of June 30 will represent the country in the CAF Champions League, we may just have a hotly contested title race that will most likely go down to the wire.
