The Gunners are back: Arsenal wins comfortably in Leicester
Reading Time: 3min | Sun. 28.02.21. | 15:10
Arteta's men were down in the 6th minute, but overturned the match and scored three goals
The Gunners are back with a shout! After winning in a thriller match with Benfica in the Europa League, Arsenal continued to score and win, this time against the third-placed Leicester at the King Power stadium: Leicester – Arsenal 1-3.
The win is even more valuable since Arteta decided to rest some of his key players like Saka, Aubameyang, and Partey, and was trailing from the 6th minute of the match, but the Gunners played their game and won quite easily. Brandon Rodgers will have to rethink his strategy of sitting back and waiting for the opponent’s mistake because it didn’t work today. They did use Arsenal’s mixed-up to score, but never did anything to double the lead. Instead, they just waited for another Gunner's mistake. But the mistake never came.
Arteta’s men played well, created better chances, had the possession, and managed to turn the match over in just 45 minutes and go from 1-0 down to 2-1. The guests allowed Tielemans to score a beautiful goal from 15 meters after their defense played badly in the 6th minute of the match.
Credit to Arteta’s men, they continued as nothing has happened and went on with the plan: play with pace, high tempo, attack, and create chances. Leicester on the other hand continued with their usual tactics: press high, play organized and wait for the opponent's mistake. Minutes went on, Arsenal was pushing, but Leicester just wouldn’t budge. Instead, it was Arsenal with the goal, but only after VAR overturned the penalty decision for the Gunners since Tielemans didn’t commit any foul in the penalty area. Willian made the cross and centered it for the unmarked Luiz, who equalized in the 39th minute.
Leicester’s reply? They again left the midfield to Arsenal and waited for the opportunity from the counter attack. But, Ndidi had other ideas. The midfielder made a stupid handball mistake in injury time and VAR was again right, it was a penalty. Lacazette was on target, and Arsenal’s comeback was complete.
At the start of the second half, Leicester was still waiting for Arsenal to make a mistake, but Gunners just continued to play like in the first half, and soon, it was 3-1, checkmate Rodgers.
Both Smith Rowe and Barnes were injured and went out, but Leicester just didn’t have a proper replacement for their player, while Artera had Odegaard. Already down by two goals, without injured Perez and Maddison, Rodgers couldn’t do much against Arsenal’s tactics. The Foxes will have to rethink their strategy for future matches, especially with so many injuries (nine so far). They travel to Burnley, who will sit deep and defend and they won’t be able to play the same game as with the others.
