Ward-Prowse is done, Maguire to follow

West Ham United have had a slow transfer window, but it's about to speed up. After the euphoria of winning the UEFA Europa Conference League, the Irons took their sweet time for two months before springing into action.

After Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez, who arrived from Ajax in a $40 million transfer, manager David Moyes is about to welcome two England internationals in just a few days. The first to come through the door is Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse, whose arrival has already been announced. After him should be Harry Maguire, who accepted he would probably lose his place in the England national team by sitting on Manchester United's substitutes bench. That would be another $38 million each for the still-most expensive defender in the world and the Saints' long-serving captain.

Ward-Prowse, who has been given the No. 7 jersey, is well-known for his exceptional delivery from set pieces, as well as his passing, accurate shooting, strong character, and leadership qualities. The 28-year-old has accumulated 343 Premier League appearances for Southampton and has completed a comprehensive pre-season preparation programme with his olf club. He arrives fully fit in East London.

"I'm buzzing to be here at West Ham United. It's great to be here, and I'm looking forward to getting going. From the outside looking in, this is a Club that has been on the rise for many years now and coming off the success in the UEFA Europa Conference League last year, you can feel there is real momentum around this club. It's great to be a part of it, and I can't wait to play my role in the games to come."

Maguire's position in Ten Hag's starting lineup has diminished, as he finds himself behind Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, and Victor Lindelof in the pecking order. He was also stripped of the captaincy. Ten Hag publicly said that the 30-year-old defender should fight for his place and show mental strength. If he cannot do it, he should go. But the writing is on the wall for the former Leicester City and Sheffield United centre-back - he knows his time at Old Trafford is up.

The Irons are also keen on another Manchester United misfit Scott McTominay and Chelsea full-back Ian Maatsen.

Moyes may be late to the party, but he can still have a good time.
