The Millionaires have been Bundesliga leaders in average attendance last season
Maybe Bayern Munich is the most successful club in Germany, maybe Bayern Munich is the supreme leader when it comes to Bundesliga, with 11 consecutive titles, but when it comes to the fan's support, nobody can beat Borussia Dortmund. Their biggest rivals have the best following in Germany, which is more than visible if we look at the numbers. Last season, Borussia (as always) had the biggest average attendance – 81.288. That number becomes even bigger when we see the full capacity of the stadium – 81. 365! That means that they were only 77 people missing from reaching the magic number – a sellout crowd in every home game!
Atmosphere at Borussia Dortmund stadium last night was unbelievable for #UCL game Vs Chelsea. What makes Bundesliga so unique is that the clubs are 51% fan owned, the season tickets are affordable and much of their money comes from their biggest teams. @robertmarawa #MSWOn947 pic.twitter.com/IOVsqYYWuQ

And considering that the famous ’yellow wall’ saw a lost Bundesliga title in front of their own eyes on the last days of the season, when their team was not able to beat Mainz (2-2), somebody maybe thought that the hype ahead of the new season would not be that big. But they were wrong. Just days before the start of the season, ’Kicker’ announced an incredible fact: Dortmund has already sold 55,000 annual tickets or 68 per cent of the stadium's capacity! They will all arrive for the first-round match against Cologne on Saturday to support the coach and players in a new attempt to dethrone Bayern. Professional staff and footballers do not need to worry. Whatever they do, as long as they try, they'll have the ’Yellow Wall’ behind them, giving them the wind at their backs.
Bayern is far behind Dortmund, as the second in terms of annual ticket sales. The "eternal" champion of Germany animated 38,000 spectators to secure a ticket until the end of the season, which is slightly more than 50 per cent of the capacity. In third place is Eintracht with 35,000 tickets sold, followed by Stuttgart with 33,200, then Leipzig with 32,000, Mönchengladbach 30,000, Werder sold 27,000... At least Heidenheim with 9,000, and only slightly more Union Berlin despite the great previous season - 11,500 tickets.
