The sad fate of Chelsea's projected wonderboy

Mykhailo Mudryk joined the Blues as an outstanding prospect but is preparing to leave already after a year and a half

January 2023 brought us the great battle between Chelsea and Arsenal for the signature of a young Ukrainian, Mykhailo Mudryk. As it has usually happened - in this century at least - the Blues were willing to pay more and thus bring the youngster. The expectations were immense, but Mudryk fell short. After only 20 months at Stamford Bridge, 62 appearances, and a poor output of only seven goals and five assists, the winger is willing to leave Chelsea, pursuing playing time.

As per Daily Express, the player paid €70 million is desperate to find a new place under the sun for himself, given that he made only two appearances since the beginning of the season under Enzo Maresca - two in the Premier League and two in UEFA Conference League qualifiers, in which he netted one goal.

The Italian strategist spoke of Ukrainian in the pre-match press conference ahead of the clash against West Ham (14.30), prompting him to earn his place on the team.

"The training sessions are the only way to improve players. We try to improve all of them every day, with some of them doing some extra sessions at the end. Micha is one of them. At this moment he is not playing, but that doesn't mean he is not going to play in the future," said Maresca.

Still, Mudryk apparently does not believe the situation will get better. Apart from him, another formerly important player and a regular starter is preparing to depart Stamford Bridge. Ben Chilwell lost his spot on the team altogether in the last season, during which he made only 13 PL appearances (21 in total). Nothing has changed since the beginning of the new season, given that Maresca favours Marc Cucurella on the left-back and Chilwell's frequent injuries did not help his status.

According to The Sun, Ipswich and Crystal Palace are interested in signing the England international in January. In the meantime, Chelsea are keen on bringing another right-back since the captain Reece James - who simply can't catch a break from injuries - and Malo Gusto are insufficient.
