The Brazilian centre-back has suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will be sidelined for about nine months
The worst news has been confirmed for Real Madrid's Eder Militao. The Brazilian centre-back for Real Madrid has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, practically saying goodbye to the entire season. The estimated recovery time will not be less than nine months.
The Brazilian sustained the injury at the beginning of the second half of the match at San Mames against Athletic Club. In an apparently inconsequential action in the own half, Militao's knee got caught as he contested a ball with Oihan Sancet. The player quickly realized the seriousness of the injury and left the field in tears.
For Real Madrid, this is the third significant setback in a week. On Thursday, Thibaut Courtois suffered a severe knee injury during a training session at Ciudad Real Madrid (anterior cruciate ligament rupture). On the same day, the surgery of Turkish player Arda Guler was confirmed due to his meniscus problems.
In Militao's case, Real Madrid has until the end of August to sign another central defender before the transfer window closes. Initially, no major moves are expected from the club. Ancelotti has David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger, and Nacho to cover the central positions and could potentially rely on the 'B' team Castilla in case of extreme urgency.
