The Smoking Man getting the band back together: Sarri wants his old players to join him at Lazio

The eccentric coach is determined to form a team to his taste

Lazio head coach Maurizio Sarri is renowned for his all-action style of football and for having his "favourite" players whom he tends to take with him from club to club. Such was the case with Jorginho, whom he brought from Napoli to Chelsea.

Now, he's keen to bring some familiar faces to Lazio in the upcoming transfer window.

The Biancocelesti are preparing to overhaul their squad at the end of the season and they plan to sell Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to fund the vital work. The 63-year-old Italian coach was furious with the club's miserable January transfer window, so he's expecting to be impressed next time around.

According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Sarri wants to sign left-back Emerson Palmieri, who is currently on loan at Lyon from Chelsea.

Another player on that list is Everton midfielder Allan, whose contract expires in 2023. Dries Mertens is also in Sarri's sights. The Belgian's contract is expiring with Napoli, and he'd like to stay in Italy, so a deal seems fairly accessible.

Finally, there's Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Sarri is a big fan of the English midfielder and believes he'd be the perfect replacement for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, meaning a deal can only go ahead if the Serbian is finally sold after a few years of speculation.
