The worst birthday ever

AC Milan's Theo Hernandez committed a foul for a penalty, missed a spot-kick, was sent off, and faces a suspension for insulting the ref - and all that on his 27th birthday

We've seen fireworks in last night's duel between Fiorentina and AC Milan - three goals, three missed penalties, six yellow and two red cards, "resurrected" David de Gea, and Viola's 2-1 victory. But one man in the Rossoneri's ranks couldn't catch a break - Theo Hernandez.

Namely, the Frenchman gave a nightmarish performance yesterday, on the day of his 27th birthday. First, he made a foul on Fiorentina's Dodo in the 18th minute for a penalty, only to be saved by his fellow countryman Mike Maignan, who stopped Moise Kean's attempt from the spot. However, that was only the beginning of Theo's agony...

In the first-half added time, AC Milan were awarded a penalty and - even though Paulo Fonseca claimed Christian Pulisic was to be the taker - Hernandez grabbed the ball and failed to beat De Gea. Light at the end of the tunnel was his 60th-minute assist for the American's equalizer, but that light soon plunged into darkness again.

Fiorentina's Albert Gudmundsson netted the winner for Fiorentina in the 73rd minute, while Hernandez started a quarrel with the referee Luca Pairetto after his last whistle, eventually being sent off. Now, he's in for a multiple-game suspension for insulting the official. Definitely a birthday the Frenchman won't remember fondly.
