The worst financial dealings in the history of football - Meet PSG!

The Parisians have spent 1.8 billion euros on compesation, but now much they profited?

Considering the entire situation surrounding Neymar (31), including his age, wage at PSG and his injury record, the Brazilian's transfer to Al Hilal can even be considered a successful business move. But when we remember how much Paris Saint-Germain paid six years ago for one of the best players at that time, then it’s another story. Here are the facts: Neymar is the best sale in the history of the Parisian club, and at the same time, the biggest loss, strictly financially speaking. This paradox prompted respectable L'Equipe to compile a list of some of PSG's worst moves on the market since the club was taken over by QSI (Qatar Sports Investments).

In these 12 years, the club from Prince's Park has paid 1,800,000,000 euros (!) in compensation. The goal was clear - to establish Paris as one of the best and most powerful sports collectives in the world. However, there were many, many obstacles on that path to glory. Apart from one final of the Champions League, the Saints didn’t do anything worthy of collective memory and attention. Moreover, they have become one of the symbols of bad business policy. They bought high and sold low. All in all, they made losses and built on the disappointment of their fans year after year. If there was not a "bottomless hole" behind them in the form of the Qatari state, bankruptcy would probably not be far away either. But like this, we can only see how much money they wasted and how many bad moves they made, and we wonder if there is an end to the newly established market madness.

So let's go with a reminder that French colleagues compiled the list of "brilliant" business moves:

DAVID LUIZ

Purchased: 49,500,000

Sold: 35,000,000

GRZEGORZ KRYCHOWIAK

Purchased: 27,500,000

Sold: 10,000,000

JAVIER PASTORE

Purchased: 42,000,000

Sold: 24,000,000

IDRISSA GUEYE

Purchased: 30,000,000

Sold: 10,000,000

EZEQUIEL LAVEZZI

Purchased: 30,000,000

Sold: 5,500,000

THILO KEHRER

Purchased: 37,000,000

Sold: 12,000,000

LEANDRO PAREDES

Purchased: 40,000,000

Sold: 2,500,000

MAURO ICARDI

Purchased: 50,000,000

Sold: 10,000,000

NEYMAR

Purchased: 222,000,000

Sold: 90,000,000

On these ten transfers alone, Paris Saint-Germain recorded a minus of more than 300,000,000 euros! And the wages of those players and how much they contributed to the team is another story completely. And if we were to count all 12 years since QSI has been running the club, the net loss is close to 1,150,000,000 euros ( the total sum is 1,800,000,000, but the ’profit’ from those sales was subtracted). The salaries of footballers are not included in this figure either...This list does not include players like Edinson Cavani, Angel Di Maria or Zlatan Ibrahimovic, for whom astronomical sums were also allocated, and they left as free agents since their contracts expired.
